The big story this weekend, possibly eclipsing Nico Rosberg’s epic win of an incident-filled Monaco Grand Prix, was the revelation that Mercedes AMG was asked by Pirelli to undertake a 1000km test.
This test was conducted at Montmelo, Circuit de Catalunya after the Spanish Grand Prix. However other teams have only recently become aware of it and claim they weren’t informed of such test. A protest has been lodged with the FIA.
Reuters’ Alan Baldwin comments that the likely consequences if Mercedes are found to have broken the Sporting Regulations could be being stripped of points, a hefty fine or even being excluded.
Mercedes could now face heavy sanctions. If the Monaco winners are found to have flouted the regulations, they could be stripped of points, fined or even excluded.
