Earlier this year, GridPasses and MotorsportSisterhood announced a Travel Grant for aspiring female motorsport journalists. The grant was set up because these two organisations know it is incredibly difficult for girls/women to get into motorsport journalism and to be taken seriously, and this is one way of supporting aspiring female journalists, promoting their work and expanding their motorsport network.
It is a pleasure to announce that the 2018 GridPasses Travel Grant has been awarded to ANNIKA GOECKE.
The selection was based on the following criteria.
- The quality of a submitted competition essay
- The relevance of the event they apply to attend to the advancement of their motorsport career
- A genuine financial need for the travel grant (insufficient assistance available from other sources
The judges were impressed with Annika’s perseverance to pursue the “lesser-told” motorsport stories and write in a different language from her mother-tongue, while holding down a second job.
“The grant has had a big impact on my passion, reigniting the flame inside me.”
Annika receives a travel grant value of up to a maximum of 300 Euros and used it towards her trip to the FIA FormulaE Pre-Season Testing in Valencia in October. She therefore is one of the first journalists globally to see twenty-two all-electric 2nd Generation (Gen2) cars in action, and speak to new drivers to the series including Gary Paffett, Pascal Wehrlein and Felipe Massa.
